What to Expect
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
Most patients start seeing results after just 1–2 sessions. A full treatment plan typically includes 3–5 sessions, spaced about 4 weeks apart. Your skin type and lifestyle (like sun exposure) can affect how long results last.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
IPL uses multiple wavelengths of light to treat a broader area, making it ideal for targeting pigment, redness, and texture. Lasers typically use a single focused wavelength to treat one specific concern.
-
You may notice improvement after just one session, but a series of 3 to 5 treatments, spaced about four weeks apart, is usually recommended for the best results.
-
Before IPL, avoid sun exposure and tanning (including self-tanners) for at least 2 weeks. After treatment, skip hot showers, harsh exfoliants, and direct sun for a few days. Always wear SPF!
-
Yes! Most people can apply makeup right after treatment if they’d like. Your skin may be slightly pink or warm, but there’s no need to avoid makeup unless otherwise advised.
-
There’s no true downtime. Dark spots may temporarily darken and flake off within a few days. Mild redness is common and usually fades within hours.
-
IPL is safest for lighter skin types (Fitzpatrick I–III). For deeper skin tones, we may recommend alternate treatments to avoid risks of hyperpigmentation or burns.
-
It’s best to avoid IPL if you’ve had recent sun exposure or plan to be out in the sun frequently. Fall and winter are ideal times, but treatments can be done year-round with careful sun protection.
